Julio Fernando Prieto Peres, PhD

The Brain - before and after psychotherapy

Neuroimaging studies have highlighted important issues related to structural and functional brain changes found in sufferers of psychological trauma that may influence their ability to synthesize, categorize, and integrate traumatic memories. The psychopathological signs of trauma are not static over time, nor is the expression of traumatic memories. Neural circuitry interaction is a crucial aspect in the development of a psychotherapeutic approach that may favor an integrative translation of the sensory fragments of the traumatic memory into a declarative memory system. The relationship between recent neuroimaging findings and psychological approaches will be discussed for greater efficacy in the treatment of psychologically traumatized patients.

Julio Fernando Prieto Peres is a neuroscientist and a psychologist with twenty years of clinical experience. As a clinician-researcher, he combines psychology with neuroscience and develops his interest in the neurobiological consequences of psychotherapy, having used functional neuroimaging to show the cerebral effects of subjective processing mediated by psychotherapy as part of his doctorate and two postdoctoral programs. Julio earned a PhD in Neuroscience and Behavior from the Institute of Psychology at Universidade de São Paulo, and post-doctorates in Diagnostic Imaging from the University of Pennsylvania and Escola Paulista de Medicina, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). His published work includes papers on reincarnation & psychotherapy, trauma, PTSD, resilience, coping, religiousness, spirituality, and functional neuroimaging. In addition to his research at the Institute of Psychiatry at Universidade de São Paulo, he is the professor in charge of Clinical Psychotraumatology training for doctors and psychologists at Hospital Pérola Byington.

Plenary Lecture II– 06/10/2014 – 18 to 19 hours

Birthmarks and Children’s Memories of Past Lives

Researchers at the University of Virginia have studied young children’s reports of past-life memories for over 50 years. The children usually describe a recent, ordinary life, and many of them have given enough details so that one particular deceased individual has been identified to match the child’s statements. Along with the statements, a number of the children have birthmarks or even birth defects that match wounds, usually the fatal wounds, on the body of the previous person. This review provides an overview of the phenomenon, with a particular focus on the birthmark cases.

Jim B. Tucker, M.D. is Bonner-Lowry Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. He is continuing the work of Dr. Ian Stevenson at the UVA Division of Perceptual Studies with children who report memories of previous lives. A board-certified child psychiatrist, Dr. Tucker worked with Dr. Stevenson for several years before taking over the research upon Dr. Stevenson’s retirement in 2002. He is the author of “Life Before Life: A Scientific Investigation of Children’s Memories of Previous Lives” (St. Martin’s, 2005).

Consciousness-Body-Consciousness: Sensitive Interactions.

The author shall begin with an approach to Consciousness definitions. Afterwards shall be given some examples how the body can change consciousness and as well the opposite. In this context some questions not yet completely understood, concerning these sensitive interactions, like NDE, dreams, etc., shall be briefly addressed.

Mário Simões, holds both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychiatry.

Call for Pre-congress Courses Information Scientific

Pre-congress Courses: October 4 – 5, 2014, from 10 am to 5 pm

1. “THE FIRM TOUCH - Uncommon Body Techniques in Regression: Accident Trauma Release and Back Pressure” by Hans TenDam

Hans TenDam graduated in psychology and pedagogy at the University of Amsterdam. He has been management consultant since 1970. Being interested in
reincarnation, he stumbled into past-life regression therapy and found he had a knack for it. He wrote many books, a.o. Exploring Reincarnation and Deep Healing. He started the WCRTs and EARTh. He has been board member of IARRT and of EARTh. He has been educating regression therapists
since 1983. He works in Dutch, English, Portuguese and German.

DESCRIPTION: Regression to accidents and surgery are rare, as few people realize how these experiences affect body and soul in later life. The workshop will show the
amazing effects of such sessions. There will be much time for exercises under supervision.

ATR regressions are in the present life. Back pressure finds past-life deaths from body trauma, often primitive lifetimes like in the Stone Age. These
sessions are vitalizing. The first day is for ATR and the second for back pressure.

Participants will know how to:

access and remove the psychological and physical aftereffects of accidents.

access and remove the psychological and physical aftereffects of surgeries.

access and remove the psychological and physical aftereffects of shocks.

access and remove the psychological and physical aftereffects of painful births.

use simple acupressure to access and process deaths by body trauma.

2. “Past Life Therapy with Children and Adolescents” by Christine Alisa, M.S.

Christine Alisa, M.S. is a Master Therapist and Trainer in the Netherton Method of Past Life Therapy with over twenty years in the field. Her model of
Regression Therapy with children and adolescents, has achieved positive results with issues such as ADHD, learning disabilities, and trauma of all kinds.
She has brought her work to therapists in the United States, Europe, India and Brazil. She is a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist in the United States.
She published the book: Turning the Hourglass: Children’s Passage Through Traumas and Past Lives, 2012.

DESCRIPTION: An overview of child therapy practices incorporation Past Life Therapy and a model of therapy developed by Christine Alisa that works
successfully with depressed, anxious, ADHD and traumatized children and adolescents will be discussed. Experiential exercises incorporating past lives and
birth trauma utilizing clay and drawing materials, a DVD video of an adolescent past life regression session and a live demonstration will also be
emphasized to promote learning and inspiration.

Participants will:

        lives.
